Projects

A. Intercultural awareness in a dual-language pre-school

I am currently working on an ethnographic research project that examines the negotiation of interculturality, identity, and language awareness in the unscripted conversations unfolding in a bilingual Pre-Kindergarden classroom. This action research project is collaborative, and conducted in the context of an ongoing professional development partnership with the school's bilingual-bicultural faculty and staff.

B. Community-Based Engagement using Museums

In 2015, in collaboration with the Conversation Tree Program Coordinator, Ms. Jessica Hunsdon, I created and participated in the implementation of a conversation café at the Zimmerli Art Museum. The goal of this project was to bring together the local community around language and art, and to create a context for collaboration between community-based organizations (e.g. The Conversation Tree) and institutions (e.g., the university and the Zimmerli Art Museum).

Details about this project can be found at: [Conversation Café website]

More information on the work conducted at Rutgers for community-based service learning can be found at: [Converstaion Tree website] and [Community-based service learning website].

C. Dancing Mobility in the Urban Linguistic Landscape

In 2018-2019, I work with pre-service dance educators, in the context of an introductory course on urban and bilingual education. Our group investigates and de/re-construct discourses, concepts, and perspectives through movement, developing and understanding of global tensions such as mobility and migration, social justice, and the relationships between language and power in society.
